This time, we wave goodbye to France and make our way to our final destination: Milan, Italy. While our Frecciarossa had smoothly journeyed from the capital city, Paris, to France's second-largest city, Lyon, the ride shifts gears as we transition onto traditional lines, mimicking the feel of a local commuter train. Our route was supposed to gently meander through the serene mountains of central France at a leisurely pace, with planned stops at the quaint stations of Chambéry and Modane. However, on the day of our travels aboard the striking Italian red train, the French railways were engulfed in a nationwide strike. This massive disruption led to cancellations across all services, from the high-speed TGVs to the local RER commuter trains. Yet, our Frecciarossa, operated by a company separate from the French national railway, had set off from Paris without a hitch. That is, until the unexpected unfolded. In a surprising twist, we deviated from our intended route, bypassing scheduled stations and enduring an extended halt at a normally non-stop mountain foothill station. This unforeseen detour was due to a staff shortage at the signal boxes amidst the strike, forcing our train to temporarily pull off the main line. Despite minor setbacks, our Paris-to-Milan Frecciarossa journey reached the France-Italy border. Before arriving at our final stop in Milan, we paused in Turin, a city at the heart of Italy's industrial sector and renowned as the home base of FIAT, the country's largest automobile manufacturer. From Turin, we catapulted back to high-speed travel, reaching speeds of up to 300 km/h (186 mph) towards our destination in Milan. Although the journey took over an hour longer than initially planned, the comfort of Frecciarossa's 'Executive Class' didn't allow us to feel the delay. The courteous service and delectable meal offerings only enhanced the experience, making us eager to book these seats on a future adventure.
