Vintage Balearic Soul from 1976 | Be Thankful • Warm Rhodes & Sunset Soul

Few details survive about DaShaun Hermano beyond a handful of photographs, several local advertisements, and one surviving studio reel recorded in S’Arenal during the summer of 1976. At the time, Hermano was known less as a musician than as a familiar face along the seafront, helping visitors arrange boat trips, coastal excursions, and hiking tours across Mallorca. According to several recollections preserved in later archive notes, he occasionally sang at private gatherings and informal terrace sessions after work. "Be Thankful" appears to have been recorded during one of those evenings. Built around warm Rhodes piano, a gentle funk bassline, soft guitar textures and an unhurried groove, the recording occupies a space somewhere between soul, Balearic lounge, and late-night terrace music. Hermano's voice rarely dominates the arrangement. Instead, it drifts naturally through the music, offering fragments of encouragement, gratitude, and quiet reflection. Unlike many recordings from the period, there is no urgency here. No dramatic climax. No attempt to impress. Only a simple idea repeated patiently through the warm Mediterranean night: Be thankful for what you've got.
