Vintage Balearic Gospel Soul from 1976 | The Best Of My Praise

While performing alongside Marcus Landry and The Solar Passage, Sheena Hollings occasionally recorded her own material during late-night sessions at the Comunidad Internacional de S'Arenal studio. "The Best Of My Praise" is one of the surviving examples of this work. Recorded in 1976, the track blends spiritual soul, Balearic disco, warm Rhodes piano, smooth funk bass, and lush vocal harmonies into a hypnotic "terrace groove" that slowly unfolds beneath the Mediterranean night sky. Unlike conventional gospel recordings, the song eschews dramatic crescendos and over-the-top delivery. Hollings’ voice glides naturally in and out of the arrangement; it emerges between long instrumental passages, only to melt back into the groove. A blend of prayer, sunset disco, and late-night meditation, "The Best Of My Praise" captures a moment where soul music, spiritual reflection, and island atmosphere briefly became one.
