Balearic Slap-Funk from 1976 | "I Play This Groove For You" by Solid Ground

Balearic Slap-Funk from 1976 Following the warm reception of “Everybody Is A Star,” the CIS archive returns to one of the most distinctive voices to emerge from the S'Arenal sessions of 1976. “I Play This Groove For You” captures bassist and vocalist Solid Ground at his most relaxed and confident. Built almost entirely around a melodic slap bass figure, the recording blurs the line between rhythm section, melody and atmosphere. Rather than treating the bass as accompaniment, Solid Ground allows it to carry the entire performance forward. The arrangement remains remarkably sparse. Soft drums, occasional Rhodes chords and guitar textures appear when needed, leaving space for the bass to breathe. Vocals drift through the mix with the same patience as the groove itself, never demanding attention, only inviting the listener to stay a little longer. Several musicians who participated in the 1976 sessions later recalled that Solid Ground often approached music less as a performance and more as a form of hospitality.
