The Last Spearfishermen | The Dying Art of Living Off The Land | Short Film

The Last Spearfishermen is a short film by Josh Munoz & Wayne Sartorio. This film follows Gael, a local-born Tahitian who now lives in Mo'orea, French Polynesia. Gael is a husband, father, and spearfisherman who provides for his family via fishing. In this film, we follow Gael around while he's diving and ask the question if he believes that future generations can also live off the island as he does. I have personally known Gael for over 5 years and he is truly one of a kind. Diving and spearing with him I am always enamored by his passion for spearfishing. He is possibly the only person I know who spearfishes to feed himself and his family. He doesn't shop in the stores or buy food on the street. He is a hunter-gatherer. I wanted to tell Gael's story because I think its beautiful and can have an impact on others.
