Rodents are part of these predators' diet. But they aren't present all the time. They come into play when crossing rivers, flooded areas, or end up falling into the water—and at that moment, they become targets. This is the type of situation this fly seeks to represent. The pattern is simple: Zonker for movement, EVA for flotation, and a robust hook to withstand the attack. Nothing more than necessary—only what needs to be there. This type of fly tyer is already used by many fly tyers. In Brazil, Lêh works consistently with this pattern. And fly tyers like Piolin show how far realism can go in fly tying. Here, the goal: functionality. I'm taking this fly to fish for golden dorado in the Esteros del Iberá, a region where this type of situation occurs frequently enough to make sense.
