I'm letting go of an idea I've believed in for years | 23ft Paulownia Sharpie Design Build Sail

Sometimes the hardest part of designing isn't creating something new—it's admitting when an idea isn't the right one. I hoped the decision would be straightforward: continue developing the Ljungström rig that I've invested so much time and effort into, or move in a completely different direction with a Junk Rig. It wasn't. Over the years, I've become attached to the Ljungström rig. In many ways, it's been like an old friend. Together we've had some successes, but we've also had our share of frustrations. As difficult as it is to admit, I've reached the point where I no longer have confidence that it will become the rig I designed this yacht around. Before making such a significant decision, I pushed the design a little further, sought advice from people with experience, and carefully considered the many thoughtful suggestions left after my previous video. This episode isn't so much about building another part of the yacht—it's about deciding its future. I know the conclusion I've reached won't please everyone, especially those who have enjoyed following the development of the Ljungström rig. But I also can't justify investing more time, money, and effort into something I no longer believe will deliver the sailing experience I'm looking for. Designing a prototype means accepting difficult decisions when the evidence points in a different direction. Now it's time to move forward.
