The First Tesla Powered Ship - What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
For the past months we’ve been working to get a second‑hand Tesla Electric motor installed in our boat, including a custom high‑voltage battery system, EMUS BMS, and hybrid inverter setup. In this episode we finish the last critical steps before the motor can actually move the boat. In this video: Final safety work on the stainless battery box Setting up the hybrid inverter and DC bus parameters Powering up the BMS and making the HVDC bus live for the first time Installing the throttle lever on the aft deck Plumbing and testing the Tesla cooling circuit First communication tests with the AEM VCU And finally… our first ever electric test cruise It’s a strange experience to move a 95‑ton boat with no diesel noise, no vibration, and no exhaust, just silent torque. And yes… it feels wrong in the best possible way. If you have questions about the Tesla SDU, the AEM VCU, the battery system, or the hybrid inverter setup, drop them in the comments — I’ll try to answer as many as possible.
