TRADITIONAL TORRIJAS: SUBLIME, SUCCULENT, AND VERY EASY TO MAKE. Here's the recipe. Torrijas are a traditional leftover dessert for Easter and Christmas in Spain, Portugal, and some regions of Brazil. Their preparation is very old, dating back to the 15th century, and has been passed down from generation to generation until today. Try this recipe and delight yourself. INGREDIENTS: 450g of loaf of bread or a little more 1 Liter of milk 3 tablespoons of sugar = 55g Zest of 1 lemon Zest of ½ orange 1 cinnamon stick 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract BATTERING: 4 Eggs Sugar to taste 1 Teaspoon of ground cinnamon PREPARATION: Cut the bread into thick slices and set aside. In a saucepan, place the milk, 3 tablespoons of sugar, the lemon and orange peels, the cinnamon stick, and the vanilla extract. Bring to a boil to infuse the milk. Let the milk cool, then remove the orange and lemon peels and the cinnamon stick. Set aside. Place the bread slices in a wide bowl and add the milk to coat the bread slices and absorb the milk. This will soften them and soak them in the infused milk. In a bowl, beat the eggs. Heat the oil and, once hot, drain the bread slices one by one. Transfer them to the bowl of beaten eggs and coat both sides with egg. Finally, fry them in the hot oil over medium heat and repeat with the other bread slices. When the slices are golden brown on both sides, place them on absorbent paper to drain. Transfer to a serving plate and coat with sugar and cinnamon to taste.
