Beleza Negra – Ocupação Ilê Aiyê (2018)

Arany Santana comments on the empowerment process caused by the Black Beauty Night. Dete Lima, stylist and director of Ilê Aiyê, talks about the preparation of the women who compete in the contest, especially about the moment of tying the turban, which has become her trademark. Val Benvindo discusses the importance of the Black Beauty Night in her personal development and also her role as one of those responsible for the event's legacy. As a cry of resistance against the historical abuses that oppress the freedom and majesty that inhabits each person – in this case, black people –, the 42nd Ocupação pays tribute to the trajectory of Ilê Aiyê. Testimonies recorded in July 2018, in Salvador/BA. Learn more about the exhibition: https://bit.ly/2RjYpVF.
