A bird that wants to sing beautifully and assert its place. This bird is not alone, but is part of a larger flock, of a diversity of "fauna" in which each has its role. I believe that we are already in this flock, and its wings can no longer be broken by anyone. I have three children and they are all settled in Romania. My greatest wish is for the border on the Prut to disappear. Every time I want to see them, I have to think about whether to go by plane, by train or by car. And when I choose a car, I often waste hours at customs. The proximity of the two banks of the Prut is a dream that I want to see come true. I long for the day when the Prut will unite more than it will divide, and the people on both banks will truly feel part of the same family, the European family. I was born in Mereni, a village of razes, and I grew up with the stories of a generation that knew war, hunger and suffering. My grandfather disappeared without a trace during World War II. No one ever knew what happened to him. Grandma was left alone with five children to raise. Those were such hard times that she had to sell what little she had: a window from the house, a piece of land from the garden, just to put a piece of bread on the table. I grew up listening to my mother's stories about those times and the sacrifices made for survival. That is why I know the past of our nation well and I do not accept that history is forgotten or falsified. I have been a teacher for over 30 years. I work at the “Emil Nicula” Theoretical High School in Mereni, officially included in the Model Schools Network. I started my career as a teacher of the “Moldovan language”, but shortly after, with the National Renaissance Movement, I became a teacher of the Romanian language. Many things are changing in Moldova, but the hardest thing is changing the mentality. Disinformation takes root where people choose to believe comfortable lies instead of the truth. In our country, propaganda takes advantage of social problems, some people’s nostalgia for the past and the consumption of false information. When information is not verified, lies end up being confused with reality. For Moldova, the choice is between two different models of development. The EU means peace, democracy, the rule of law, investments, freedom of movement and higher living standards. Russia means political and economic dependence, influence over internal decisions and a governance model less oriented towards democratic values. Ultimately, it is the citizens who decide what future they want for their country. We need to know who respects us and where we are received with dignity. We have seen how Maia Sandu is welcomed and applauded in the West, as a representative of a country that has earned respect through seriousness and by choosing the European path.
