We were separated from Romania against our will, and this rupture left deep traces in the destiny of people on both banks of the Prut. History separated us, but it could not break the bonds of language, culture and soul. I am a citizen of the Republic of Moldova and the United States of America. After 20 years spent in the USA, the country that is said to offer everyone the chance to fulfill their dreams, I returned to my homeland to do what I love most, to sing, I am a music teacher. I consider myself a participant in the historical events that marked the destiny of Moldova. On August 27, 1991, when hundreds of thousands of people gathered in the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau to support independence, I came with a large group of residents from Briceni to the capital. It was a turning point, the culmination of the national revival movement and the beginning of our path to freedom and sovereignty. During all these years of independence, the Kremlin has repeatedly demonstrated its “care” for Moldova, trying to dictate to us what decisions to make and what direction to follow. But the future of the country should not be decided in Moscow, but by us, the citizens. Therefore, our society needs an honest answer to several fundamental questions: Who are we? Where are we going? What kind of state do we want to build? Without a common vision of these goals, it will be difficult for us to build a strong, prosperous and truly free state.
