We were told that we lived well, but the reality was different. The state farm had a pig farm, and the meat went to Moscow. For the people here, the ears, tail and legs of pigs remained. For a kilogram of salami, we would stand in line for hours, and if you didn’t have an acquaintance at the store, you would go home empty-handed. I got married four times and I remember the weddings of that time well: modest meals, deprivation and a lot of worries. Living with the Russians was with its shortcomings and humiliations that many try to forget today. The roads were full of mud. I remember how, when a dead person had to be taken to the cemetery, people held onto the coffin so that he wouldn't fall because of the potholes and the unpaved roads. This reality is less talked about when some try to tell us about the past. We are witnesses of the National Renaissance Movement. We went to rallies and the Great National Assemblies. We regained our language, dignity and the courage to say who we are. The same language, the same song, the same flag, the same blood, the same people. And today I tell you something honest: I don't have a Romanian passport. We didn't regain our citizenship because we couldn't afford the necessary expenses. In our souls we were and remain Romanians. We have two sons, and one of them has been living in Portugal with his family for 25 years. We went to visit them and were deeply impressed by the standard of living in the West. Seeing how life is in the West, we have been convinced once again that the Republic of Moldova deserves the same chance. We hope that our country will join the European Union and offer future generations better opportunities at home. I believe that the future of the Republic of Moldova also depends to a large extent on how the war in the neighboring country will end. Ukraine needs a just peace, one that will guarantee security and stability in the entire region. We are proud of President Maia Sandu. In recent years, Moldova has become much better known and respected internationally. Our hearts swell when we see how she is received and applauded in Europe, as the president of our country. Unfortunately, at home there are also voices that criticize her or try to compromise her merits. I believe that our future is in the EU, not in the Kremlin's sphere of influence. After everything I have experienced and seen over the years, I do not want Moldova to end up under Moscow's umbrella again. To have a prosperous life, we must work, and the government must make reforms. There is no other way to prosperity. In justice, the results are long overdue and the world wants more justice. However, the one who thought he was the greatest and most powerful ended up in Penitentiary No. 13. It is a signal that no one should be above the law. Plahotniuc must serve his sentence because many people suffered from his regime. If we want a European country, the law must be the same for everyone.
