In this video, we go for a walk through downtown Mar del Plata, but first, a stop at Manolo. We had already had churros and hot chocolate for breakfast at Manolo, but when we saw they had a menu with a super picada for three people, we decided to go back and try it. We arrived at noon and there was already a huge line of people to get into the restaurant; the wait was about 30 minutes, but it was worth it! The super picada came with fried cheese, fried ravioli, fried squid, French fries, sausages, meat empanadas, chicken empanadas, peanuts, cheese with green olives, two pizzas, something similar to lomo saltado, and a liter of Quilmes beer. And on top of that, we ordered three churros with custard, dulce de leche, and chocolate. It was a lot of food—almost an eating challenge! 🍽️🌊 Picada at Manolo, Churros and a Walk through Mar del Plata | Day of Food, History, and Urban Stroll 🌆🍩 🏙️👟 Discovering the Heart of Mar del Plata We started our third day in Mar del Plata eager to get to know the city, as the previous days we had been to the Masticar Fair, a food festival that we loved for its atmosphere, generous portions, and unique flavors. Today, our plan was truly Argentine: abundant picada, churros for dessert, and a walk through the center. 🥪🍻 Manolo: Epic Picada, History, and Tradition We headed straight to Manolo, a Mar del Plata classic famous for its churros, but also for its picadas. We ordered the picada for three people (the smallest), but the amount of food surprised us! While we waited, we learned a little about Manolo's history: originating in Spain, then in Uruguay, and now a staple in Argentina and South America. 🍺 Quilmes Beer to Start Nothing better than a cold Quilmes to accompany the picada, included in the price. Refreshing and perfect for lunch. 🍕🦑🥟 The Picada: Variety for All Tastes Fried cheese (addictive!), fried spinach and ricotta ravioli, mini sausages, peanuts, French fries, breaded calamari, beef and chicken empanadas, thin-crust pizza with half marinara and half mozzarella, bread, green olives, and more. We tried everything, especially the fried ravioli, the lemon calamari, the sweet tomato pizza, and the cheeses. The mini empanadas were another special touch, and the portion was so generous that there was enough leftover for dinner. 🍩☕ Dessert Churros: Vanilla, Dulce de Leche, and Chocolate We couldn't leave Manolo without ordering churros: one vanilla, one dulce de leche, and one chocolate. Magnificent! Perfect to round off a hearty meal. 💰📊 Price and Portions: Lunch and Dinner in One Lunch The price for this entire experience: 940 Argentine pesos (~25 USD). For the quantity and quality, it's super convenient! They packed us leftovers for dinner, and we were more than satisfied. 🌳🌧️ Stroll through Plaza San Martín and Artisan Fair We strolled through Plaza San Martín, the green heart of the city with the emblematic statue of the Liberator. A craft fair is set up around it in the afternoon and evening, full of crafts and local life. The weather wasn't good: between the wind and rain, we had to rush back to the apartment, but we kept working and toasting with a glass of wine. 🍷💻 End of the Day: Work, Wine, and Plans for More Beach and Seafood We ended the day relaxing and doing a little work in the apartment while the rain fell outside. Tomorrow will be a day of beach and seafood!
