🔥 Handmade Rugby Trophy with Spinning Ball – How I Did It!

In our friendly SuperBru Rugby League, predictions for the Six Nations come with banter, competition, and the dreaded wooden spoon. But what about the winner? No trophy? No bragging rights? That just wouldn’t do! So, I set out to design and build a unique, handcrafted award that could be passed around yearly to the reigning champion. Using spalted beech, I turned a miniature rugby ball and engraved the league logos with the AlgoLaser rotary chuck. A 6-coat lacquer finish, polished with ‪@EasyWoodTools‬ Yorkshire Grit microfine and ‪@ChestnutProducts‬Microcrystalline wax, made it shine like a true prize. The custom frame was crafted in ‪@AffinityDesignerOfficial‬, cut with the ‪@algolaserofficial‬ 5W DIY Kit, and finished with Chestnut Products Spirit stains and multiple lacquer coats for a professional touch. The oak base gave it a sturdy foundation, and throughout the entire project, my ‪@DremelUK‬ 8260 was an essential tool—helping to refine multiple elements along the way. Tiny 5mm bearings made the ball spin effortlessly within the frame, adding a final touch of movement to the design. From turning wood to laser engraving, staining, and assembly, this was an absolute blast to create!
