Crafting a Classic-Inspired Derby Car: The Dremel Misfit Makers Challenge

Join me in this exciting journey as I take on ‪@DremelUK‬'s challenge for the Misfit Makers to create a Derby Car. The rules gave us specific dimensions and weight limits, but the creative process was entirely in our hands. I drew inspiration from the iconic ‪@rangerover‬ Defender and brought it to life through a mix of ingenuity, craftsmanship, and trusty tools. The video kicks off with the satisfying start of laser cutting. Using my ‪@algolaserofficial‬ 5W DIY kit, I meticulously cut the design from 2mm ply, which I created earlier in Fusion 360 and Lightburn. Once the pieces were ready, I punched them out (a moment every ‪@OfficialAirfix‬ enthusiast would appreciate!) and began assembling the car using O3adhesives. From there, I added some flair—airbrushing the build with ‪@ChestnutProducts‬ spirit stains to create vibrant colours. I also turned custom touches like lights and a spare wheel on my lathe, bringing the Derby Car to life. With some help from my Dremel 8260 and glue gun for tweaks and weight adjustments, the assembly was finalised. Finally, I packed the car securely using ‪@ShadowFoam‬ (‪@JonaShone‬) to ensure safe delivery to Dremel. While it didn’t win the race, my car proudly stayed in its lane—the only one to do so!
