🎁 Jewellery Box with Hidden Lock A Unique Commission with a Personal Twist 🧰✨ In this episode of Jiggsy’s Shed, I take on a special commission: crafting a bespoke jewellery box with a hidden lock, designed as a surprise birthday gift for someone deeply respected in the martial arts community. The brief? Vague but intriguing. At a celebratory dinner, I was asked to “make something… maybe a glasses case or a trinket box.” It had to be personal, meaningful, and engraved—but the details were left wide open. Challenge accepted. 🪵 Design & Materials A visit to ‪@MatthewMoustache‬ at Moustache Workshop provided the perfect timber: figured sapele for the walls, maple for the lid and base, and black walnut accents inspired by traditional Japanese architecture. ‪@rubiomonocoatuk‬ oils brought out the natural beauty of each wood. 🎨 Engraving the Story The original concept featured dragons and katana motifs, but after learning the recipient’s favourite flower was the Strelitzia (Bird of Paradise), the design shifted. I created a custom illustration and engraved it onto the maple lid using my DIY ‪@algolaserofficial‬ 5W Laser. 🔐 The Hidden Lock Mechanism This was my first time building a concealed locking system, and it took plenty of trial and error—but the final result is something I’m proud of.
