This performance is part of the “Golden Chain” project – students from leading art academies engaging creatively with ancient Jewish traditions. The project is an original initiative of Yad Ben-Zvi in collaboration with the Administration for Jewish Identity, Ministry of Settlement and National Missions. The performance took place at the Yad Yitzhak Ben-Zvi Auditorium, Jerusalem, as part of the International Oud Festival, November 11, 2025. More About the Project: A unique collaboration between the International Oud Festival, Yad Yitzhak Ben-Zvi, and the Center for Music from the East brings to the stage for the first time the musical heritage of the Barashi community—a synagogue founded by immigrants from the village of Barashi in Kurdistan, in Jerusalem’s Nahlaot neighborhood. An ensemble of teachers and students, instrumentalists and singers—together with members of the Barashi community—perform new arrangements of piyyutim that have been preserved from generation to generation by three long-established Kurdish-Jerusalemite families: Barashi, Yehoshua, and Barazani.
