Colombia-06-Lost City Trek Begins! First Day in Colombia’s Jungle (Ciudad Perdida)

My 5-day Lost City Trek in Colombia begins! In this episode I’m in Santa Marta, staying at Aqua Marina Hotel, before starting the epic jungle hike to Ciudad Perdida (The Lost City) deep in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Early morning I get picked up and head to the Wiva Walkers office by the beach, where I meet my trekking group for the first time – travelers from Germany, Colombia, Denmark, France, plus our amazing guides José and André. After a 2-hour drive we arrive at Machete, the official starting point of the trek. After lunch, the real adventure begins: hiking into the Colombian jungle with the first real steps into the ancient world of the Tayrona region. The heat and humidity are intense, but the views are already incredible. I send my backpack ahead on a motorbike for the first section – a lifesaver! We hike through lush jungle trails, take breaks in the heat and as we reach our first jungle camp, we discover a natural pool with a waterfall nearby… and of course, I jump in for an unforgettable swim. After dinner, our guides share fascinating stories about the Indigenous Tayrona people and the 4 tribes still living in the Sierra Nevada mountains. This is just Day 1 of the legendary Ciudad Perdida trek – and it already feels like a life-changing journey.
