Talk to anyone in Santa Marta about traveling to Minca and they light up. It is their favorite holiday in Colombia because it's not the beach. Instead it's up in the cloud forest just outside Santa Marta, it's remote and you need a 4x4 vehicle to get there but it's absolutely worth it. You drive up a tropical rainforest in the Sierra Nevada onwards part coffee plantations, farms, cattle and other animals. The roads are bad but locals are accustomed to it. Finally you arrive in cooler, brisk air and stunning views from the Andes.
