Metropolitan Luke demonstrates that God's love was manifested not in words or promises, but in the sacrifice of Christ, who gave Himself for people who, by their deeds, did not deserve it. Particular attention is given to the common misconception that God's mercy frees people from the need for repentance. On the contrary, the Cross of Christ is not an excuse for sin, but a call to change one's life. Having received the gift of Divine love, a Christian is called to become its witness through mercy, patience, and love, even toward those who do not deserve it. Key point: The Cross of Christ does not give a person permission to live in sin, but opens the way to repentance and calls one to become a living witness of God's love.
