Let him pray." "Is anyone merry? Let him sing psalms." The sermon is devoted to two states familiar to everyone: sorrow and joy. What is the suffering of modern man? Why do so many suffer today, unable even to name the cause of their pain? How can one pray when it seems God is silent and prayer is not forthcoming? And why can joy be no less dangerous for the soul than sorrow? Using the example of the prophet Elisha, the sermon demonstrates that the way out of any life situation lies not in human calculations, but in turning to God. Sorrow is meant to lead a person to prayer, and joy to gratitude. True peace of mind is born when a person does not forget God, whether in trials or in prosperity. A Christian must turn to God in any state of the soul: in sorrow through prayer, and in joy through thanksgiving, maintaining a living connection with the Lord regardless of life's circumstances.
