Solo Camping in the Dunes | Campfires, Sunsets & Storm Clouds

I returned to Indiana Dunes National Park for another overnight camping trip at the Central Walk-In Campground — this time staying at Campsite #5 for the very first time. What made this trip special is that this campsite officially completed my goal of camping at EVERY campsite in this campground. After the 15-minute walk from the parking lot, I immediately spotted a raccoon near the entrance to my campsite which definitely made me a little nervous for the night 😅 But once I arrived at camp, I realized Campsite #5 was absolutely beautiful with plenty of room to spread out and relax. I set up my tent, gathered firewood for later that night, and made a quick dinner before heading out to explore. Near the campsite I found an overlook with an incredible view of the beach and sunset. I set up my camping chair and spent the evening soaking in the peaceful views as the sun disappeared over the dunes. Once darkness fell, I hiked back to camp, started a fire, and enjoyed a relaxing night in the woods before settling into my tent to watch the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie on my phone. The next morning I woke up to beautiful weather and took my time enjoying the peaceful campsite before noticing storm clouds quickly rolling in. I packed up camp fast, hiked back to my car, and the second I got inside the rain finally started falling.
