I Rode 14 Miles Into a Derecho Storm to Go Camping

I decided to test my brand new Hiboy U2 Pro e-scooter by riding from my house in Chicago all the way to Bullfrog Lake for a camping adventure. The ride was about 14 miles, and everything was going perfectly… until I was only ONE minute away from the campground. That’s when a severe derecho storm hit the area. The winds picked up, heavy rain started coming down, and I had to quickly take shelter at the campground check-in office while the worst of the storm passed. Once the rain slowed down enough, I made my way to my campsite and immediately started setting up my tarp and tent. After getting camp ready, I spent time inside my tent waiting for the storm to completely pass. When things finally calmed down, I hopped back on my scooter, grabbed firewood, and started a campfire. I even headed to the fishing dock to test out my fishing rod — no fish caught, but I did get an amazing sunset. Later that night another thunderstorm rolled in, so I retreated back into my tent, watched Game 4 of the NBA Finals, cooked a Mountain House meal, and finished the night watching movies on my portable projector while rain poured outside. The next morning brought beautiful sunshine, which helped dry all my gear. I also took time to show off the Hiboy U2 Pro and all the features that made this trip possible. On my ride home I finally saw the aftermath of the storm — fallen trees everywhere, including some that damaged cars and houses.
