Will We Make It? ⛰️ Climbing Mount Katahdin

This was harder than we thought ...... BUT We made it to Our Top of Mount Katahdin! Unfortunately not the actual summit, but almost! With it getting dark by 7PM, we wanted to allow enough time for us to get back down the mountain before dusk. So we split our daylight hours in half, subtracted one hour to get our turn around time of 1pm. And unfortunately at 1pm we still had about one mile left to the summit. 😩😔⛰🧗‍♀️ We ascended 3,082 ft. at a constant uphill incline, climbing up and over boulders, with our in and out mileage of 8.75 miles in 9 hours. 8 miles doesn’t seem like much when you’re walking flat ground, but quite the different perspective when you’re climbing. This is the time of year a lot of people who started the Appalachian Trail finish at Mount Katahdin. We were fortunate to have the chance to congratulate several hikers who finished the entire Appalachian Trail today! One of which had the trail name “Tangled” who mentioned she thought Alexis should have that trail name. Alexis beamed. ☺️ Such an inspiration to see all of these people lit up like torches excited to hit their final summit! We have a lot of respect for these folks as there are multiple portions of the Appalachian Trail that are as difficult or more difficult that the climb up Mount Katahdin. Mount Katahdin just happens to be the longest in duration. We were bummed we didn’t make it, but still felt the accomplishment of climbing. Definitely the hardest hike/climb we’ve ever done! Alexis was a super star!! There were parts that she was in tears from fear, but pushed through and is stronger because of it!! So proud of our little mountain goat! 😍❤️🐐 P. S. After that crazy long hike/climb Alexis is still running around climbing on rocks. Jason and I are hobbling around like we need to use walkers…. #hiking #mountains #appalachiantrail #maine
