Amazing Roman Shrines on Moor

Following in the footsteps of two Roman centurions from the 3rd century AD, can we locate what's left of their shrines, high up on the moor? Scargill High Moor, in fact. But first, we take a look at where Frontinu and Julius Secundus lived and worked: the Roman fort of Lavatris - modern day Bowes in County Durham. An impressive fort platform survives, along with the ransacked remains of a Roman bathhouse. And in the church, an inscribed tablet to Severus and his sons. And then it's off on a tiring slog onto the moors - as our two centurions did 1700 to 1800 years ago. They would take a break from hunting by visiting their shrines - complete with altars - and these were discovered in 1936, excavated in the 1940s. But will there be anything left to see today? Both shrines had altars dedicated to Vinotonus Silvanus and we look at the inscriptions on these.
