Britain had never seen anything like the a bath-house prior to the Roman occupation. What on earth did the locals make of them? Effectively the precursor to Turkish baths, we take a look at three examples here in order to understand how they worked and the related bathing ritual. Undoubtedly yet another example of Roman sophistication, but what was the human cost? We're focusing on military Roman bath-houses here, looking at the incredible remains at Chesters Roman Fort; the commander's private baths and the original military bath-house at Binchester.
