Chapter 36 - The Touch of Faith (Contemporary)
The Touch of Faith [Verse 1] Upon the shore the people came, With joy they welcomed Jesus’ name, Then Jairus fell with pleading eyes, “My little daughter fades and dies.” “Come lay Thy hands on her, I pray, And make her whole this very day,” Then Jesus turned toward Jairus’ door, While eager crowds pressed Him more. [Verse 2] The anxious father yearned for speed, Yet Christ still paused for human need, A woman weak through twelve long years, Had spent her means in pain and tears. She pressed through crowds to find a way, “If I may touch His robe today,” I shall be healed,” her heart confessed, “One touch from Him, and I’ll be blessed.” [Chorus] Touch of faith, O trembling soul, Christ alone can make thee whole, Not the robe, nor pressing near, But trust that knows His power is here. Living faith is more than sight, It takes His promise, holds it tight, Not belief in name alone, But claiming Christ to be our own. [Verse 3] She touched His garment in her need, And perfect health returned with speed, She knew her plague had passed away, Her night had turned to shining day. Then Jesus paused amid the throng, “Who touched Me?” came His question strong, Though many pressed Him in that place, One touch had reached His healing grace. [Verse 4] She came and knelt in trembling fear, And told her story for all to hear, She told how in her hour of need, She touched His robe and had been freed. He said, “Dear daughter, go in peace, Thy faith has made thy suffering cease,” No outward thread had made her whole, But faith had joined her trusting soul. [Verse 5] While still He spoke, the message spread, “Trouble Him not; the child is dead.” But Jesus turned: “Fear not, but believe, And life through faith thou shalt receive.” The hired mourners came to weep, He said, “The child is but asleep.” They laughed His tender words to scorn, Yet joy would rise where grief had mourned. [Verse 6] He sent the mocking crowd away, And entered where the maiden lay, With parents and the chosen three, To see death yield immediately. He took her hand beside the bed, “Little girl, arise,” the Savior said, Her pulse returned, her eyes grew bright, Her parents clasped her with delight. [Final Chorus] Touch of faith, O soul oppressed, Christ can give the weary rest, Not the press of crowds around, But faith in Him makes healing found. Fear not, believe, His word shall stand, Death itself obeys His hand, Go now in peace, His grace received, And tell the world what you believe. #egw #egwwritings #ellengouldwhite #adventist #seventhdayadventist #christ #gospel #jesus #jesussongs #gospelmessage
