Chapter 33 - Who Are My Brethren? (Traditional)
[Verse 1] His brothers heard the things He’d done, The crowds that pressed Him, one by one, They saw the strain from day to night, And feared He’d lost His sense of right. They could not grasp His mission true, Nor why He challenged all they knew, And sought to draw Him from the strife That pressed upon His daily life. [Verse 2] The Pharisees began to claim His power came through Satan’s name, His brothers heard with deep dismay, And wished He’d choose a quieter way. They urged that He should step aside, And speak with caution, not to divide, They thought that through their mother’s plea He might be led more carefully. [Chorus] Take heed, O heart, the light you see, Turn not away, but bow the knee, For every step from truth declined Leaves deeper night within the mind. Not just by open sin we fall, But when we fail to heed His call, Receive His voice while yet you may, Lest darkness steal the soul away. [Verse 3] The words we speak reveal the heart, Then shape the soul in every part, A careless thought, a doubting word, Can dim the truth once clearly heard. For once expressed, the mind will cling, And pride will make a falsehood ring, Till what was doubt becomes belief, And binds the soul in darkened grief. [Verse 4] The heart set free, if left unfilled, May fall to darker bondage still, For empty hearts, though swept and clean, Can lose the freedom they’d once seen. But souls that yield to Christ alone Become a place He calls His own, A fortress strong, no foe can claim, Where He alone shall rule and reign. [Bridge] Not forced away, but left aside, The soul drifts from the Savior’s side, No need to choose the path of night— Just fail to walk within the light. For one or the other must control The throne that governs every soul, And only those in Christ who stay Shall keep the tempter’s power at bay. [Verse 5] His mother stood, His brothers near, Desiring that He would appear, But stretching forth His hand, said He, “Who are My brethren unto Me? For all who do My Father’s will Are bound to Me in union still, Not flesh alone, nor earthly tie, But faith that lives and will not die.” [Final Chorus] Take heed, O heart, the light you see, Turn not away, but bow the knee, For Christ will claim as His alone The hearts that make His will their own. No closer bond can e’er be given, Than those who walk the path to heaven, O hear His call, His voice obey— And walk with Him the narrow way. #egwwritings #egwwritings #ellengouldwhite #adventist #seventhdayadventist #christ #gospel #jesus #jesussongs #gospelmessage
