Socio-ecological futures of housing: a framework of critical inheritance | ReHousIn Lecture #12
In this ReHousIn lecture, Dr. Gabu Heindl (University of Kassel) explores how the concept of critical inheritance can help shape more just and sustainable futures for housing. The session examines how revisiting historical housing models can provide valuable lessons for addressing today's housing and climate challenges. Drawing on examples from Vienna and Frankfurt, the lecture reflects on the changing role of housing in society and discusses the opportunities and limitations of the New European Affordable Housing Plan. It considers how housing policies can move beyond market-driven approaches to support affordability, participation and the long-term stewardship of existing housing. The lecture invites us to rethink housing as a collective responsibility, highlighting the importance of non-speculative housing, public policy and learning from the past to build more equitable socio-ecological futures. 🔗 ReHousIn Project Website: https://rehousin.eu Follow ReHousIn on LinkedIn:   / rehousin  #HousingInequality #CriticalInheritance #HousingJustice #AffordableHousing #HousingPolicy #UrbanPlanning #SocioEcologicalTransition #Vienna #Frankfurt #SustainableCities #UrbanStudies
