Housing paradoxes in Green Cities – examples from Norway | ReHousIn Lecture #2

This lecture, delivered within the framework of the ReHousIn – Reducing Housing Inequalities project, explores how green urban strategies such as densification can shape housing affordability, neighbourhood quality, and displacement risks. Focusing on two Norwegian case studies – Nydalen in Oslo and Stavanger – the speakers examine the paradoxes of Norway’s densification agenda in a highly commodified housing system. Drawing on qualitative research, policy analysis, and comparative insights, the lecture highlights the role of governance structures, market dynamics, and local activism in shaping housing outcomes. It shows why integrating housing justice into climate and planning policies is essential for ensuring that the green transition does not deepen existing inequalities. About ReHousIn: ReHousIn - Reducing Housing Inequalities is a Horizon Europe project researching how environmental and energy policies – such as retrofitting, densification, and nature-based solutions – intersect with housing systems and inequalities across nine European countries. Through data analysis, regional case studies, and engagement with residents, policymakers, and housing providers, the project develops recommendations for a socially just green transition. 🔗 ReHousIn Project Website: https://rehousin.eu Follow ReHousIn on LinkedIn:   / rehousin   #ReHousIn #HousingInequality #HousingCrisis #UrbanPlanning #Milan #AffordableHousing #UrbanInequality #GreenTransition #Retrofitting #Densification #Gentrification #SustainableCities #UrbanStudies #HorizonEurope #HousingAffordability #TransportInequality #JustTransition #PolitecnicoDiMilano #OCA #UrbanResearch #EuropeanCities #RightToHousing #ClimateJustice
