Swiss environmental & energy policies & their impact on housing inequalities | ReHousIn Lecture #4
In this ReHousIn lecture, researchers from the ETH Centre for Research on Architecture, Society & the Built Environment (ETH Wohnforum – ETH CASE) explore how Environmental and Energy Policies (EEPs) interact with Switzerland’s housing system. Focusing on energy retrofitting, urban densification, and nature-based solutions, the session examines how these interventions shape housing inequalities across different local contexts. Drawing on case studies from the Zurich area (Altstetten and Schwamendingen), the lecture highlights how Switzerland’s housing model, characterised by relatively low homeownership and moderate tenant protections, influences the social outcomes of green policies. The lecture also highlights emerging dynamics in response to environmental and energy policies, including displacement pressures linked to refurbishment and densification, and questions around who benefits from energy transition incentives. Overall, the session highlights the importance of aligning environmental and social objectives to ensure that the benefits of the green transition are shared more equitably. 🔗 ReHousIn Project Website: https://rehousin.eu Follow ReHousIn on LinkedIn: / rehousin #ReHousIn #HousingInequality #HousingCrisis #UrbanPlanning #Switzerland #Zurich #AffordableHousing #UrbanInequality #GreenTransition #Retrofitting #Densification #Gentrification #EnergyTransition #TenantProtection #HousingSystems #NaturebasedSolutions #SustainableCities #UrbanStudies #HorizonEurope #JustTransition #ETH #ETHZurich #UrbanResearch #EuropeanCities #RightToHousing #ClimateJustice
