After several active days visiting Los Alerces National Park, strolling through Trevelin, and traveling aboard La Trochita, we decided to have a slightly more relaxing day in Esquel. We woke up a little later than usual, had a meal by the kilo lunch at Alto Pollo, and from there decided to climb Cerro de la Cruz, a hike a French traveler had recommended to us. In the afternoon we went to Confitería Maria Castaña for tea, Samuel bought his first gaucho beret, and in the evening we had a delicious pizza at Fitzroya. That was our day in Esquel; very relaxing, but we needed a little break. See you tomorrow for another trip, this time to visit Piedra Parada! 🍽️🥾 Full Day in Esquel: Meal by the Kilo, Trekking to Cerro de la Cruz, and Pizza with Feline Friends | Patagonia Vlog 🇦🇷✨ 🏡 Lunch at the Cabin: Food by the Kilo and Red Wine The day kicked off in Esquel, with Samuel and Audrey enjoying lunch at their cabin. They bought food by the kilo at "Alto Botón," highlighting the variety of options: milanesas, pastas, purées, salads, and of course, the inevitable Argentine Malbec red wine. All for a super affordable price – 420 pesos a plate, about $10! While they ate lunch, they planned their day: a hike to the mountain that they could see from their window, Cerro de la Cruz. 🥾 Steep Trek to Cerro de la Cruz Recharged, Samuel and Audrey set off from downtown Esquel toward Cerro de la Cruz. The trail gets steeper and steeper, but offers spectacular views of the city and the snow-capped mountains. Audrey improvises with a borrowed jacket because she underestimated the Patagonian cold. Along the way, they meet a French couple who warn them about the distance to the summit, and they ultimately decide to turn back before reaching the cross due to the wind and limited time. Despite not reaching the top, they enjoy the scenery and the experience. 🍰☕ Afternoon Tea at a Confectionery and Winter Shopping Back in Esquel, the afternoon continues with a stop at a confectionery: tea, cakes, and sweets to replenish their energy. Samuel chooses an "aguaribay" with dulce de leche and chocolate cream; Audrey, a chocolate and raspberry cake, experiencing the classic indecision over which dessert to choose. Afterward, they take the opportunity to do some winter shopping: flannel shirts, wool hats, and a new jacket for Audrey. Samuel also debuts an authentic gaucho beret, and they both prepare for the Patagonian cold. 🐱 Friendship with Local Cats During their stay, Samuel and Audrey are visited by local cats who wander near the cabin. They discover that one of them, nicknamed "Meow," lives in the local supermarket. They make sure to buy him food and leave him a portion before going out to dinner, forming a special bond with their new feline friends. 🍕 Argentine Pizza Dinner and Final Recap of the Day At night, it's time for pizza in Esquel: a special offer with Neapolitan pizza, olives, mozzarella, tomato, and garlic bread, plus an ice-cold Coca-Cola.
