Can I dare be that intimate with God, and is He that intimate with me?

I speak a lot about God being Father and "Dad", but sometimes even I need to be reminded by the simplest of things to throw away my formality for closeness and intimacy. God was like "I hear you, all your prayers, and all the stuff you are doing and and and... but stop. Are you willing to call me Pops, or do you think I need to be shown your commitment and appreciation?". He reminded me that He really does not care about any of that, not before He knows that I know, that I am His boy. How quickly I sometimes fall back into my previous and childhood experiences and use that to relate to God on a subconscious level, but God was asking me to be consciously aware of how I create distance between me and Him.
