Hypnotic Balearic Funk from 1976 | Everybody Is A Star

Among the musicians passing through the Comunidad Internacional de S’Arenal, few sounded quite like Solid Ground. Living only a short walk from the studio, he became known for building entire recordings around deceptively simple bass figures — repetitive, patient grooves that seemed less interested in performance than in creating a shared state of movement and calm. “Everybody Is A Star” remains one of the clearest surviving examples of that approach. Built around a slow rolling slap bass pattern, warm Rhodes chords and softly drifting guitar textures, the recording unfolds with remarkable restraint. Nothing rushes forward. Nothing demands attention. The groove simply continues, carrying the listener along like evening air moving between apartment blocks and the coastline beyond. Session notes repeatedly describe the atmosphere as unusually relaxed. Musicians came and went throughout the recording. Conversations drifted in from outside. The tape kept rolling. What survives feels less like a song than a place.
