Vintage Balearic Soul from 1976 | First Day Of Eternity

By the summer of 1976, some of the sessions surrounding vocalist and tenor saxophonist Marcus Landry had begun drifting beyond both dance music and traditional soul arrangements into something slower, more meditative and increasingly communal. “First Day Of Eternity” emerged from a series of extended daytime recordings with The Solar Passage, featuring Debbie Landry in a more prominent vocal role alongside the ensemble’s evolving blend of spiritual soul, cosmic funk and open-ended groove improvisation. Unlike the late-night atmosphere often associated with other recordings from the period, these sessions seem to have been shaped by heat, sunlight and long afternoons stretching toward the horizon. Surviving notes reference open doors, endless rehearsals, musicians coming and going throughout the day, and performances continuing long after anyone remembered pressing record. Built around hypnotic bass figures, floating Rhodes harmonies, soft tenor saxophone motifs and layered vocal mantras, the recording unfolds less like a song than a shared ritual — patient, cyclical and quietly ecstatic.
