Wenn selbst die Hölle prüde ist: Hellraiser 6: Hellseeker | Review und Analyse
After Hellraiser 5: Inferno pleasantly surprised me, I was curious to see if the sixth installment could keep up. In Hellraiser 6: Hellseeker, Pinhead and his Cenobites return, terrifying their victims. Hellraiser 6: Hellseeker (2002) is a direct-to-DVD production, and the script was reportedly never intended as a Hellraiser film. Pinhead, the Puzzle Box, and the Cenobites were added later to market the film more successfully under the Hellraiser brand name. Find out whether this affects the film's quality in my review. 00:00 Zero points on Rotten Tomatoes 00:59 Kirsty (Hellraiser 1 & 2) is back 04:14 Trevor has amnesia 06:35 It's all just a bad nightmare 08:24 Nudity and violence are yucky yucky 10:18 It doesn't get any dumber and thinner 13:00 The "Red Herring" of Hellraiser 14:18 The Finale 14:58 Rating and Conclusion What is a red herring? And what does it have to do with Hellraiser 6? Why does this film work so poorly as a plot twist? Keyword: Red Herring – Red Herring is an English expression and refers to a diversionary tactic. In plot twist films, there are always red herrings to lead us astray. These don't necessarily have to be objects or direct information in dialogue; they can also be created through the narrative level: e.g. For example, if the protagonist is an unreliable, perhaps even schizophrenic narrator: think Joker or Fight Club. A good plot twist film, however, only ever gives us information that continues to make sense after the big reveal and doesn't contradict the events preceding it. And that's the big problem with Hellraiser 6: Hellseeker. In one scene, Trevor talks to Pinhead in a puddle. Pinhead very clearly implies that Trevor killed his wife Kirsty and his boss. But in retrospect, that makes absolutely no sense and is simply wrong. As viewers, we had no chance at all of finding out what happened in the big reveal plot twist because the film didn't give us any valuable, ambiguous, or true information. This is unfortunately a sign of a weak script, and a rewatch, like with films like "Lucky Number Slevin" or "The Machinist," is unfortunately not worth it for Hellraiser 6: Hellseeker. Conclusion and rating of Hellraiser 6: Hellseeker: Hellraiser 6: Hellseeker is absolutely average in every respect. The plot is mediocre, the acting is okay, Pinhead is well-directed, and the plot twist ending is even a bit of a surprise. But is that enough to make it a convincing Hellraiser film? No. The film lacks soul, love, and passion. To me, the film seemed as if everyone involved was just going through the motions. This is certainly due to the film's budget, but let's be honest: as viewers, we don't care at all. And this "work by the book" mentality permeates the entire film: The camera doesn't impress with interesting perspectives that might enhance Trevor's surreal nightmares, but rather simply keeps shooting, as if no thought had been given to the cinematography. Now, what happens in front of the camera could enhance the film, but even that doesn't amount to much: the costumes and sets look incredibly cheap: you can practically see that everything takes place in disused warehouses that were rented for next to nothing. The dialogue is absolutely run-of-the-mill fare, and the plot, which is interesting at first, just falters after 20 minutes. It's as if the screenwriter stopped developing the film after his basic idea and said to himself: Well, my idea for this plot twist is so good, it's sure to carry the whole film. It doesn't. What I have to praise: Pinhead is well directed, and the special effects seem solid compared to the look of the rest of the film. The film doesn't even offer good fare for gore or splatter fans, and as a mystery mindfuck film, the script is far too undemanding - remember the Red Herring. Well, Hellraiser 6: Hellseeker isn't a complete disaster, but it's not exactly eye-catching either. Just average – and who wants to take the time to experience something average? Nobody. Therefore, I give Hellraiser 6: Hellseeker 4 out of 10. ___ ▲ Email: [email protected] ▲ Instagram: / fancy_reviews_ ▲ Community Discord Channel: / discord ▲ Discord: Fancy Reviews 3937 ___ #Hellraiser #pinhead #FancyReviews
