And why don't we just relocate the plot of the films to wherever it's cheap to produce? According to the script, Hellraiser 7: Deader was supposed to take place in Manhattan, but the story was moved to Bucharest, Romania. The Romanian crew and actors had poor English skills, which made production extremely difficult. And to save money, they simply filmed scenes for Hellraiser 8: Hellworld at the same time. Conclusion and rating of Hellraiser 7: Deader: Hellraiser 7: Deader is simply inconsequential. The idea of ​​the death cult that has formed around the Cenobites and their mysterious dimension has potential, but it's not fully developed. There are a few morbid highlights in the film; the bizarre train compartment was well-staged, and Bucharest as a filming location was a welcome change from the urban look and feel of the other Hellraiser films. In Hellraiser: Deader, Pinhead is once again reduced to a tiny supporting character who doesn't even get five minutes of screen time. Which I wouldn't have a problem with in principle, if his appearances were at least meaningful and dramatic. But of course, they aren't here. He rattles off his one-liners, tears someone apart with chains, and then he's gone. This character is so utterly wasted, it's unbelievable. I suppose anyone into gore and splatter will find a treat or two in Hellraiser 7: Deader. There are a fair number of scenes, but personally, I didn't find them particularly well-executed. When the protagonist hops around the bathroom for seven minutes with a knife in his stomach, there's certainly a lot of blood and plenty of screen time, but that doesn't make it exciting by any means. At the end of the day, I see a slight improvement over Hellraiser 6: Hellseeker, because they didn't try to cross a crime story with Pinhead this time. But this sequel doesn't really ignite either. It remains a mystery to me why this franchise was relegated to the realm of cheaply produced direct-to-DVD movies with such a lack of care and indifference.
