Paint Quick and Loose!

In this painting demonstration, I paint “A Quiet Florida Path,” a 6" x 8" oil painting on an Ampersand Gessobord panel. The scene follows a sandy path through the Florida scrub, surrounded by sabal palms, low vegetation, water, and an open sky. I talk about the importance of painting loosely and quickly, simplifying the landscape, and not getting caught up in unnecessary details. Sometimes the best way to capture the feeling of a place is to keep the brush moving and focus on the large shapes, values, color, and atmosphere.
