In São Paulo, gangs have intensified their cell phone thefts, smashing car windows in broad daylight on busy avenues. With the help of accomplices, the thieves identify targets and flee quickly. Victim accounts highlight the impact of these actions. Taxi driver Ricardo, for example, stated after an attempted robbery: "The loss was all mine." To protect himself, he secured his cell phone to the car's dashboard with a steel cable. Experts recommend not using cell phones as GPS devices and installing anti-vandalism films on vehicle windows to hinder criminal activity.
