UP Martinez Subdivision: Amtrak San Joaquins, Capitol Corridor, and UP Action at Martinez, Volume 1

Taken: November 19, 2024 For the record, for those that do not know, UP is an acronym for Union Pacific. I didn't have enough space in the title to elongate the acronym. Rolling Stock: Morrison-Knudsen/American Passenger Rail Car Company = California Car Coaches and Cab Cars #8312, #8301, and #8302. Siemens = Siemens Charger SC-44 Locomotives #2106, #2124, and #2102. St. Louis Car Company = Comet IB Axle-Count Car (ex-NJT, ex-Arrow I EMU Car). General Electric = AC44CCTE Locomotives #7787, #5505, and #7803; Amtrak P42DC Locomotives #10 and #175. EMD = Union Pacific SD70ACe Locomotives #8584 and #8356. CAF = Viewliner II Baggage Car #61022. Pullman-Standard = Superliner I Coach Cars. Bombardier = Superliner II Coach Cars Alright, y'all, since I have a ton of footage from my Amtrak trips within California, I figured why not show you one of my favorite, yet lengthy trips to a good spot: Martinez, California. This is definitely a crucial station stop for the Coast Starlight and California Zephyr, but it is also the last/first transfer point between the San Joaquins and Capitol Corridor Amtrak California service. If I happened to misidentify the Union Pacific freight train number (#INPOA) @ 12:56, please do not hesitate to correct me. I am not an expert with freight moves and am always willing to learn. In this portion of the video, I would have liked to see a few more F59PHI locomotives in action; however, I am glad to have caught one of the Capitol Corridor-exclusive Siemens Charger SC-44 locomotives so far (#2124). Furthermore, I was not aware that Amtrak California Zephyr Train #5 was running, so it was cool recording the P42DCs with a steel bell in action as well as the trademark chugging of the Genesis locomotives as they pulled Train #5 out of Martinez towards Emeryville. You can also see the stark difference between the San Joaquins and Capitol Corridor trainsets such as the former consisting of 5 passenger cars and one axle-count car due to BNSF regulations and the latter consisting of 4-5 passenger cars. Ultimately, Martinez is a nice area with a few restaurants (a bit too expensive for me) with a nice mountainous environment in the background with a variety of trains within the Amtrak network and a few Union Pacific freight trains, but the presence of freight varies depending on the day of the week. With that being said, I have said plenty, so I will leave it at that.
