UP Martinez Subdivision: Amtrak San Joaquins, Capitol Corridor, and UP Action at Martinez, Volume 2

Taken: November 19, 2024 For the record, for those that do not know, UP is an acronym for Union Pacific. I didn't have enough space in the title to elongate the acronym. Rolling Stock: Morrison-Knudsen/American Passenger Rail Car Company = California Car Coaches and Cab Cars #8314, #8301 (w/ its Raised Letter K5LA), #8308, #8306 (w/ its unrestricted Nathan P5), #8303, #8309, and #8302. EMD = F59PHI Locomotives #2006 and #2001; Union Pacific GP60 Locomotive #1003 and GP38-2 Locomotive #1018. Siemens = Siemens Charger SC-44 Locomotives #2123, #2105, #2124, #2108 and #2102. Originally, this station was a stop for the long-distance Amtrak trains and the San Joaquins service; however, in 1991, upon the introduction of Capitol Corridor service at this station, the increased ridership proved to be excessive for the old Martinez station. As a result, in 2001, a new larger station was built just across the railroad crossing. At the timestamp @1:47, enjoy F59PHI #2006's headlights being left on, despite it not leading the train. I have never seen that on any Amtrak train until this moment. Train #715 being about 5 minutes late kinda screwed things over with me recording Train #542 since the former obstructed the latter. I was hoping to get #8301 on camera not just because of the horn reminding me of NJT's Multilevel Cab Cars, but it was the cab car that was out of service for 1 1/2 years when a part of it caught on fire after striking a car. While I did not see any Siemens Venture San Joaquins trainsets in action, it was nice to capture the California Car trainsets on the San Joaquins line, considering that as time will progress, the San Joaquins will consist of these Venture sets. The displaced California Car/Surfliner trainsets will be moved to either the Capitol Corridor and also the other Amtrak lines within California. Do not forget to enjoy the light show on Train #547, courtesy of the strobe lights on top of Siemens Charger SC-44 #2102! With that being said, I am glad I got to take the trek to Martinez, California and I was honestly more pleased with this edition of my trip, especially since I was able to get more Amtrak trainsets on video and there was a bit of variety among, especially with the locomotives. It's also like a small rail museum on both ends of the Ferry Street railroad crossing with the Southern Pacific locomotive, Martinez Chamber of Commerce, as well as the old and current Martinez Amtrak station.
