60532 Blue Peter takes Galloway Princess Round the Cumbrian Coast: Busy Day at Carlisle 26 Apr 25

60532 Blue Peter Rounds the Beautiful Cumbrian Coast and Morecambe Bay and a Busy Day at Carlisle Class 47 Galloway Princess Class 57s, The Institution of Mechanical Engiineers Class 68, Class 70, Class 88, Class 90s 26 April 2025 A great day at Carlisle and Arnside finishing off with Blue Peter running home to Crewe with NO Support Coach! Locomotive Services' 60532 Blue Peter hauls the Lakelander charter to Carlisle and around the Cumbrian Coast. In order to beat the steam ban it needs to be piloting a diesel - in this case Class 47 Galloway Princess - and technically not provide the power to pull the train. A Clas 57 is still needed at the rear to provide 'hotel services'. I must admit the Peppercorn A2 pacifics, as exemplified by Blue Peter, are magnificent beasts. They exude Power! Northern Belle's Settle Carlisle Special also appeared - totally diesel hauled. LNER drivers are still route learning along the Tyne Valley line and show appearances at Crlisle Citadel station. We also see a couple of nuclear flask trains pass through Carlisle, plus class 90s and an 88 / 68 pairing on intermodals passing Carlisle. At some point an issue with some points at the south junction limited access to Platform 1 meaning the charters and freight were vying with the main line passenger services for a platform. Once The Lakelander left for the coast, I headed to my car for a leisurely drive down the M6 to the coast of Morecambe Bay at Arnside where I caught a couple of local trains plus The Lakelander crossing the River Kent on the long low viaduct. Then to Carnforth - or was it Bolton le Sands and Dertren Bridge to see firstly Blue Peter, light engine and without support coach, head to Crewe before The Lakelander, now totally diesel hauled, headed for Rugby.
