Barbra Mchenga, Malawi's commissioner of Police

Since September 2023, we at the AML - CFT ESCAY PROJECT have supported the training of national officials from four countries - Uganda 🇺🇬, Zambia 🇿🇲, Tanzania 🇹🇿 and Malawi🇲🇼 - on the development of a national curriculum on Financial Investigations. This was made possible through funding from the European Commission. Each country team designed a Financial Investigations curriculum fit to suit their country’s specific needs, gaps and legal system. The curricula will be used in each country's police academies and prosecution training centres. A few weeks ago, we gathered in Mombasa the team of experts and officials that drafted each curriculum, a team of officials to validate the curricula and another team of officials from each country to witness and officiate the launch of each curriculum. Leading the Malawi team was Malawi's commissioner of Police, Ms Barbra Mchenga Tsiga. She praised the European Union for supporting the effort to develop a curriculum, specific to Financial Investigations, which Malawi did not have for its officers charged with investigating financial crimes. Ms Barbra spoke to us on the sidelines of the 'validation and launch' workshop, held in Mombasa at the beginning of December.
