LUKA KIMARU We held a sensitisation and training sessions for some of Kenya's leading judges on counter terrorism and terrorist financing and counter terrorism efforts, This workshop, made possible through funding of our project by the European Commission, was part of a series of workshops and training, which we jointly organised with the Kenya Judiciary Academy and the U.S. Department of Justice, Criminal Division, since 2019. The success of this collaboration has been tremendous! To date, we have trained 200 magistrates and nearly 100 judges on counter terrorism and counter terrorist financing. Yet many more judicial officers are yet to be trained on these matters. This workshop sought to increase the judges' understanding of criminal terrorist networks, their modus operandi and how their illicit finances flow. To enrich an interactive dialogue and encourage inter agency cooperation, we invited officers from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution, the Anti-Terror Police Unit, the National Counter Terrorism Centre, the Asset Recovery Agency among others.
