DUCK HARBOR TRAIL- Hike Harbor to Harbor on Isle au Haut!!! - Longest Trail in Acadia National Park
*DUCK HARBOR TRAIL Video Guide* Harbor to Harbor Isle au Haut, the longest trail in Acadia National Park Depending on hiking preferences & experience this trail can be challenging for a hiker. As a day hike, the earliest departure of The Mail Boat over from Stonington to Isle au Haut provides enough time to hike down from the town landing to catch the last ride back from Duck Harbor. Keeping the pace up is a must as this trail runs ~3.5 miles down the island. Keeping track of time, staying on trail, and not getting injured by watching your footing are important in the park, BUT ESPECIALLY on Isle au Haut. With rougher terrain and less travelled trails, ~5000 annual visitors & 2 rangers stationed on the island... HAVE A PLAN & tell it to someone for safety! You may not see ANYONE on this hike depending on the day. If a picture is worth 1000 words...what's a video worth? *KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE TRAIL* see the Terrain, Trailheads, Views, and Intersecting Trails... NATURE!!! LIKE or SUBSCRIBE - I'd like for you to do either, I'd LOVE for you to do both! DUCK HARBOR TRAIL begins ~0.4 mi up Island Main Loop Road behind the Ranger Station at the top of Isle au Haut. It begins on somewhat familiar terrain across bog boards and over roots & rocks. Thoughts of this being a usual Acadia trail are quickly dispelled as a rise leads to paths that are soft brown moss and board bridges across marsh waters. Granite begins to peek out from the moss footbeds as the trail rises before heading downward. A climb down some uneven granite leads to more bog boards & a trailbed of moss & roots. By this time leg joints eased by softer ground may still feel ok, but the cushioned underfoot begins to stretch tendons. A sign reassuring the trail's path begins a section of trail where terrains change constantly & watching steps is important approaching the trailhead for BOWDITCH TRAIL. Turning toward the coast, forest paths continue to change views of flora. Arriving at the coast the trail peaks out to and traverses stony beaches. After a wood bridge & hillside traverse the trailhead of DEEP COVE TRAIL provides a brief detour opportunity. After this another Park Road yields to a mossy forest path & a final climb & descent that may be tricky for weary legs. The trail ends on the dirt park roads which you must take ~0.6 mi around Duck Harbor to board the Mail Boat at Duck Harbor Landing. I hope my efforts make your watching experience AND your next visit to ACADIA NATIONAL PARK ... wicked awesome! FRIENDLY REMINDER: no matter the difficulty, hiking has risks... HAVE A PLAN... the best times are had when planned properly. Alternate, shorter routes than what you intend to hike are abundant in Acadia... your hiking plan can include them as contingencies. Injuries can happen, let others know your planned route and timeframe... cell service is spotty in Acadia National Park. Remember: know your limits so you can push them, and DEFINITELY REMEMBER: what goes up must come down which includes you... AND if you enjoy the tour, your guide does accept likes, subscriptions and comments... (an option of leaving a tip: ie a link for actual tips through patreon is likely coming soonish). Be Safe! Live your purpose, change your world... Share your knowledge, change the world...
