We Harvested Our First Tomatoes and Seeded Our Last

Tomato harvest has officially begun at Wishwell Farms! In today’s farm vlog, we start the day in the grape tomato greenhouse harvesting our very first tomatoes of the 2026 season. It’s a small harvest to begin with, but after months of seeding, transplanting, pruning, trellising, and waiting, it feels great to finally be picking tomatoes again. We begin with grape tomatoes and a little trellising using the Florida Weave and then while Emma and Rylie finish picking, I head to the starter house to water plants and talk about how we need to get them transplanted soon now that it is finally safe from frost. We also need to make more room in the starter house for seeding fall crops like broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower. After that, we move into Greenhouse #1 to harvest our first red round beefsteak tomatoes of the year. I show how we harvest them with tubs and wheelbarrows, what color we like to pick them, why we remove the stems, and how this small first harvest will soon ramp up to hundreds of pounds every other day. At the end of the day, I wrap things up back in the starter house by seeding our final tomato planting of 2026 — our 8th tomato seeding of the season — on the very same day we began harvesting the first crop. It’s a pretty cool full-circle day on the farm: harvesting the first tomatoes while planting the last.
