A Huge Tomato Harvest When We Needed It Most!
We’re short on time, short on help, and honestly, short on money. That’s where this farm day started — right in the middle of our first huge tomato harvest of the season in greenhouse #1. After months of money going out and nothing coming back in, this is the kind of harvest we needed as farmers markets begin and the season starts to ramp up. In this video, we harvest a big crop of greenhouse tomatoes, from one of our four greenhouses, then back in the barn we fold and pack tomato boxes, talk about why we pack tomatoes in different sizes, what “seconds” or cosmetically challenged tomatoes are, and why we reuse boxes whenever we can. We also transplant cucumbers, zucchini, squash, and pickles, then race against a major rainstorm to plant sweet corn before the weather shuts us down. This is one of those weeks where everything is piling up at once — but a harvest like this makes a big difference. Thanks for watching and supporting the farm! #tomatoharvest #farmersmarket #vegetablefarm
