I’m not sure where to start with this one…but the dispatch came through as a grounding for a 55ft Prestige up by Jewfish Key. When I called the customer, he said they’ve now floated off, but have no propulsion, so he anchored up, and thinks he lost his drive pods. I asked how fast he was going when he ran aground, and he said about 5kts. I said it’s not likely, but we can try to figure that out when I get there. I also gave him a list of places to call that could possibly haul him out since he’s going to need to be hauled out for repair or replacement whether he has the pods or not. When I get on scene, he says he dove under the boat and couldn’t see anything, but that the water was a bit murky, so he’s not sure. I tell him I’ve never had pods fall off from any grounding, and they definitely shouldn’t fall off from such a low-speed grounding. Anyways, there’s nothing I can do for him other than tow him to the marina, but unfortunately, the only marina that was willing to take him was full up at the moment and could take him for a few days, but luckily the marina owner had a private dock nearby that we could put the yacht at until they had room. On the way there, the yacht was fishtailing quite a bit, which led me to believe that maybe this yacht did indeed lose both drive pods. 😬The mechanic came over after we docked the boat and was talking with the captain, and that’s when the captain stated that this wasn’t the first grounding of this trip 🤦‍♂️ Well…that would explain why the pods might have fallen off from this slow speed grounding. The captain was pretty sure he knew where they fell off, so I offered our services to recover the pods if they were there, but the mechanic said they’d go back at a low tide and do it themselves. I said I’d at least take a quick look on my way back and see if I could find them and send them the exact GPS coordinates since they’d probably be doing it before daylight…and wouldn’t you know it; both pods were exactly where the captain said he thought they’d be 😂 Join this channel to get access to perks:    / @captkeno   ***Affiliate Links: Amazon Storefront https://www.amazon.com/shop/floridagu... Here's what actually happened. 😳 Dispatch comes in for a grounding near Jewfish Key. 55ft Prestige, hard aground. By the time I get the captain on the phone, the boat's already floated free, but there's zero propulsion, and he's convinced his drive pods just fell off. At five knots. I wasn't buying it, but hey, anything's possible, right? I send him a list of haul-out options, because either way this boat's coming out of the water, then head out to see it for myself. The captain's already free-dove the hull. Murky water, zero visibility, zero answers. Only thing left to do: tow him in. Except the marina that said yes? Suddenly full. Cue the scramble. We land him on a private dock instead while we sort out a real spot. Then on the tow, the boat starts fishtailing. Like, a lot. My "there's no way he lost both pods" theory is taking some damage. 😬 Docked up, mechanic shows up, starts chatting with the captain, and that's when it comes out: this wasn't even his first grounding of the trip. 🤦‍♂️ Well. That changes everything. The captain's got a hunch where the pods are. I tell him I'll check before their low-tide recovery run, and wouldn't you know it, found both pods exactly where he said. 😂 GPS sent, mystery solved, captain redeemed.
