The Lord Leycester - Tour of one of the worlds finest medieval buildings

Video shows The Lord Leycester one of the most important medieval buildings in the world. Built in the late 14th and early 15th centuries by the United Guild of Warwick it took only 50 years to complete. Known as the Lord Leycester Hospital although it is not a Hospital for the sick , the word Hospital originates from Latin and means a House or lodgings. The Guild gave the buildings to Robert Dudley for him to create a Sanctuary for the Brethren - distinguished military veterans After over 450 years, The Lord Leycester is still home to the Brethren, who remain an active part of Warwick today, The buildings include St James’s Chapel which was built over the West Gate of the medieval Town wall. It is still a working sanctuary where the Master and Brethren hold regular morning prayers which you are allowed to attend There are also two acres of gardens set on the last remaining section of Warwick’s medieval town wall. The beautiful gardens are over 500 years old and provided an area for the brethren to grow vegetables and for relaxation.
